This video shows the near surface float patterns over multiple tide cycles in Chandler Bay.
About this model:
Our model was developed by Chris Kincaid, a Professor of Oceanography at University of Rhode Island, who is well known for his work focusing on the relationship between circulation in coastal waters and biogeochemical transport processes. Chris developed a similar model for the Narraganset Bay Commission—operator of the 2 biggest water treatment plants in Narraganset Bay—which helped them understand the complex tidal current flows in their area and the impacts adding nutrients and particulates would have on the ecology of the region. He has also worked on modelling tidal flows and assimilative capacity in Frenchman Bay in Maine. CEM ROMS models are built on open-source code and use the best publicly available data for all inputs (water quality, hydrography, etc.).
Please let us know if you and/or your colleagues would like more information on the model and/or in-depth information on the results it is finding.
